Rain Rain and more Rain

Main Road in Mount Helena

In this month of July, we are all watching the amount of rain we are receiving and all happy with the good amount …last week we had figures of 20mls plus. With the Avon Decent happening on the 10 -11th August we are watching the river rise.

But what if there is too much water? Flooding is not new to the hills and we have some great photos of water gushing over roadways. I remember the old days when it was common for vehicles to break down if driven across flooded roadways. If the distributor got wet, the vehicle would come to a standstill.

The last time the Mundaring Weir overflowed in 1996 was a major event. We have been told that the Water Corporation around that time had installed all the pipework for moving the precious water around the various dams but local MP for Swan Hills June Van der Klashorst asked them to allow the Weir to overflow for tourism reasons. It was a huge event and people came from far and wide to see the spectacle.

We are seeking more photos of the overflowing of the Weir since the1960s. Can you help us?
