Cats in the Library

A Joondalup City Councillor is proposing that the local library play a part in accepting cats in the library.

He said cats in the library could increase visitor numbers, boost mental health, allow for creative event ideas, and educate the community about responsible pet ownership.

“It is proposed that such a program would be of minimal, or neutral costs, aimed at providing a social benefit with potential secondary economic development benefit through visitor attraction and publicity,” he wrote in his motion.

Library cats have been a phenomenon since the Middle Ages with the felines introduced to combat rodents but have since become popular to have in places like cafes.

Judging by the varied comments on the "Perth Now" website, it will be an interesting outcome.
